What is a plica?
Plica syndrome is a common source of knee pain in active individuals. Plica are normal folds of the joint capsule that form during embryonic development. These folds (plica) often persist in varying forms into adulthood without causing any problems. Occasionally, though, because of the location or size of a plica, it can cause mechanical symptoms and pain in the knee. This is an arthroscopic video of two separate cases of plica syndrome and their treatment.
